Caption: Soviet Almaz space station construction. This is the third-generation Almaz 1v automated space station. The Almaz program was a series of military satellites that were launched as "Salyut" space stations to mislead Western spies. Work on the Almaz series took place from the 1970s to the 1990s. The Almaz 1v, which was never launched, was the last to be built in the series. Photographed at the Khrunichev Engineering Works, in Moscow, Russia.
