Caption: Manned mission to Charon. Artwork showing a manned rocket landing on Charon, the largest moon of the dwarf planet Pluto (upper left). Pluto and Charon are icy bodies orbiting together in the Kuiper Belt on the outer edges of the Solar System. The Sun (centre) is some 6 billion kilometres distant. The first unmanned probe from Earth, the New Horizons spacecraft, is due to arrive at Pluto in 2015. Manned expeditions to the Kuiper Belt might one day find new sources of raw materials.
