Caption: Buncefield depot. Aerial photograph of Buncefield fuel depot (centre) in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. This photo was taken before an explosion devastated the depot on the morning of 11th December 2005. The blasts were heard across England and even in Northern France and the Netherlands. It is believed to be the largest fire in peacetime Europe. Emergency measures have been taken to prevent harm to nearby residents who may inhale fumes and pollutants caused by the fire. These include the closing of schools, businesses and roads, and advising residents to wear protective masks. Firefighters are using a combination of water and foam to stop the blaze.
