Caption: Oil refinery. This is the residfiner area, where crude oil products are processed to remove any impurities, such as sulphur. The oil is heated to up to 400 degrees Celsius and treated with pressurized hydrogen. The resulting purified oil is then passed to cracking units, such as the catalytic cracker, where the oil is broken down into raw materials for petrol or the chemical industry. Photographed at ExxonMobil's Fawley Oil Refinery, Hampshire, UK.
