Caption: Biodiesel filling station. Motorist filling her car with a biodiesel blend fuel. This type of biodiesel is rapeseed methyl ester, which is made by transesterification of rapeseed oil. The fuel can be used in conventional diesel engines without modification. The use of biodiesel, even in a blend of only 5% biodiesel to 95% petroleum diesel, reduces sulphur-containing emissions, which are the main cause of acid rain. Also, the continual growth of new rape absorbs carbon dioxide from the air, therefore biodiesel contributes less to the greenhouse effect than fossil fuels. Photographed in Yorkshire, England.
