Caption: Davis Dam hydroelectric power station on the Colorado river, Arizona, USA. Electricity generated by hydroelectric stations is relatively cheap and has limited environmental impact. By raising the flood gates, output can be increased to satisfy peaks in demand. The Davis Dam was completed in 1953. It is downstream from the Hoover Dam. It regulates deliberate releases from Hoover as well as water from flash floods. It also generates 1 to 2 billion kilowatt-hours anually. The reservoir behind the dam is called Lake Mohave.
