Caption: Shasta Dam, California, USA, looking down from the crest to the Sacramento River below. The dam has a structural height of 183 metres. The water seen at bottom is flowing through the dam from the lake behind it (Shasta Lake), creating the largest manmade waterfall in the world. The dam controls flooding along the Sacramento River, created the reservoir behind it, and generates hydroelectric power. It was built from 1938-1945, and is one of the largest concrete dams in the world.
