Caption: Carew mill, Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. This is a tidal mill, a type of water mill that is driven by the rise and fall of the tide. There has been a mill on this site since 1541. The present mill dates from the beginning of the 19th Century. A causeway dams the Carew river to form a millpond that covers 23 acres. Floodgates open and close with the flow and ebb of the tide. Freshwater is supplied to the the millpond by the Carew river.
