Caption: False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of two young fruits of the goosegrass plant, Galium aparine. The tiny hooks which decorate the exterior of the fruit are in the process of formation & the fruits themselves are still firmly attached to their common stalk. At maturity, however, this attachment will become tenuous & the fruits will be detached & dispersed when the hooks catch in the fur of a passing animal, or the clothing of a human. Magnification: x20 at 35mm size. Green tint (leech). Ref.: MICROCOSMOS, figure 4.41, page 87.
