Caption: "Mushroom cloud" resulting from the test detonation of a hydrogen bomb, the world's first thermonuclear explosion. The device was detonated on the surface of a barge at Enewatak Atoll on October 31st, 1952, and had a yield of 10.4 megatons (ie the equivalent of an explosion of 10.4 million tons of high-explosive TNT). The event was codenamed "Ivy Mike".
