Caption: Operation Tumbler-Snapper atom bomb test. US armed forces personnel watching the mushroom cloud rising after the detonation of an atom bomb at the Nevada Test Site, USA, in April 1952. During this month, three atom bomb tests were carried out as part of Operation Tumbler-Snapper. These three tests were named: Able (1st April, 1 kiloton), Baker (15th April, 1 kiloton) and Charlie (22nd April, 31 kiloton). This type of test, where people were allowed to view the explosion, was known as an "open shot" test.
