Caption: Raspberry. Close-up of the fruit of a raspberry Rubus idaeus (family: Rosaceae), growing on a branch. The red fleshy fruit is edible and may be used to make jams and jellies. Syrups, distilled liquors, juice and a very delicate essence can also be obtained from the fruit. The raspberry plant is a shrub with thorny stems whose branches may reach 2 metres or more in length. Rubus idaeus has both summer-fruiting and autumn-fruiting varieties. The plant is native to most European countries from Spain to the Caucasus and including Iceland and Great Britain.
