Caption: Apricot tree. View of an apricot tree (Prunus armeniaca) with several ripe fruits ready for harvest. These are a variety of apricots known as Perfection. The apricot produces small, sweet fruit, with a large stone in the middle. Apricots are eaten fresh, and can also be crushed to make jam, or dried. Apricots contain several important nutrients, including potassium, iron, and vitamin C. They also contain carotene, a substance the body can convert into vitamin A, and they are a very good source of dietary fibre, a necessary aid to digestion. The apricot is Asian in origin.
