Caption: A designer making adjustments to ROBUG 2, a wall- climbing robot made by Portsmouth Polytechnic. ROBUG 2 has four limbs, each with a vacuum grippping foot. This enables it to climb walls and cross obstacles. The robot is also strong enough to carry a payload equal to its own weight. Eventually such robots may be able to inspect, clean and paint walls and the sides of ships. This photograph was taken at the 1990 Robot Olympics in Glasgow.
