Caption: Robot snake. Although this robot has wheels, it was inspired by the movements of snakes. This active cord mechanism was built in 1972 by Shireo Hirose from the Department of Mechano-Aerospace Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan. Photographed in 1999.
