Telecube held by a scientific researcher. The prototype (G2) Telecube is a self-assembling lattice reconfiguration robot. Each of its six faces has two electromagnets and two metal plates. The plates allow Telecubes to connect (dock) with each other. An on-board computer controls the electromagnets, which can be extend by hydraulic arms (not seen) to attach to other nearby Telecubes. When modules are connected together they are able to reconfigure their overall shape. Commercial uses could include self-optimizing aeroplane wing shapes. Telecubes are being developed at the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), USA.
