Caption: Testing Robocup player. Roboticists at the German National Research Centre testing one of their Robocup players (lower left). Robocup, the World Cup Robotic Soccer competition, promotes the development of robots for use in hostile environments. It also drives general advances in design and behaviour. Matches consist of two five-minute periods of play between two teams of up to five robots, with categories for different sized robots. Here they are testing the video camera which the player uses to monitor the ball (orange). The robot's view is on the screen at centre right. Photographed in the laboratory of Jorg Wilberg (upper left), near Bonn, Germany.
