Caption: Robocup 2003. Humanoid competitors in the 2003 Robocup competition. The Robocup is an annual event in which teams of autonomous robots from an assortment of institutions play football against each other. This requires a high level of artificial intelligence. Humanoid robots have to be able to walk and take a kick. The aim of the competition is to develop a team of humanoid robots that can beat the best human side in the world by the year 2050. The cup has several leagues, including divisions for four-legged robots as well as the humanoid (bipedal) robots seen here. The 2003 event, the seventh Robocup, was held in Padua, Italy.
