Robotic imitation. Robotic hand imitating the position of a human hand. This robotic hand has been built by Graaltech, a company founded by researchers from the University of Genoa, Italy, to develop robot applications. One of the aims of robotics is to build robots that can carry out an action like this, which requires the robot to see the human hand, and move its hand to imitate the shape it sees. This image of pointing hands is similar to that seen in Michelangelo's painting The Creation of Adam (in the Sistine Chapel, Rome, Italy) where two pointing hands meeting signify the biblical story of the creation of Adam by God. This image could symbolise humans creating robots.
