Caption: Robot skin. This rubber mask was designed by American robot designer David Hanson for use on an Albert Einstein robot. It is composed of a spongy polymer called 'Frubber' that is light and flexible enough to be controlled by small servo motors within the robot head. The Einstein robot contains motion detecting and speech recognition sensors that send signals to an external computer running artificial intelligence software. The computer reacts by controlling 33 servo motors within the robot head which produce life-like facial expressions. Photographed in 2007.
