Caption: Satellite receiving station for a meteorological station. Data received at this station includes satellite data on ozone levels in the ozone layer. Photographed at the Finnish Meteorological Institute's Arctic Research Centre (FMI-ARC), Sodankyla, in Finnish Lapland. Studies carried out here include research into the Arctic ozone layer. The centre is often under, or on the edge of, the northern ozone hole. The holes in the ozone layer are polar regions of ozone depletion caused by chlorinated gases used by humans. This leads to increased levels of dangerous types of ultraviolet radiation. This satellite station was established in 2002.
