Caption: Measuring electric current. Circuit diagram showing the arrangement of equipment used to measure electric current flowing through a component. The components are represented by standard symbols. At left is a battery consisting of two cells; a resistor is at right; an open switch is at bottom; and an ammeter is at top. When the switch is closed, the potential difference (voltage) of the battery will cause electric current to flow round the circuit. The value of the electric current will vary depending on the value of the resistor. The ammeter is used to measure the amount of electric current.
