Caption: False colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a TM 2716 integrated circuit, showing details of the surface architecture. This chip is of the EPROM type - Electrically Programmable Read Only Memory. EPROM chips are programmed by applying a voltage across selected connecting pins. Some such devices may then be subsequently reprogrammed - other types may not. The chip appears without the quartz window that normally covers it; the window is masked with tape once the unit has been programmed. Removal of the tape and exposure of the underlying circuitry to ultraviolet light would erase the programme. Magnification: X 86 at 35mm size. ORIGINAL IS BW PRINT T370/452. The TM 2716 EPROM chip is of the NMOS type (n-type.
