Chip carrier. Gloved hands holding a ceramic carrier for housing a computer's integrated circuit chip. The carrier is being inspected under a microscope as part of a quality control procedure. The silicon chip or integrated circuit (IC) will be mounted in the space in the centre of the carrier. Around this are a series of vertical pins. These are the termination pins which connect the chip to the rest of the computer. Thin wires (usually gold wires) connect the chip to the termination pins.
