Caption: Technicians working in a clean-room environment during the preparation of DRAM computer chips. Individual chips are fabricated on circular wafers in a multi-stage process that involves the deposition & etching of various patterned layers on a silicon base. DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) devices are used as memory chips in microcomputers. Data can be read from and written to DRAM chips, but the contents are lost when the power supply is removed. Dynamic RAM devices are distinguished from their static relatives by the need for their contents to be constantly refreshed at short, regular intervals.
