Microchip manufacture. Technician in a clean room prepares semiconductor microchip wafers for heat treatment. The whole wafers, each containing several microchips (integrated circuits), are the black discs at lower left. The microchips are made by impregnating a semiconductor with patterns of impurities which affect its electrical properties. The protective clothing prevents contamination of the wafers. Photographed in the UK.
