Caption: DEUCE computer. Operator using the Digital Electronic Universal Computing Engine (DEUCE) computer. This was a commercial version of the Pilot ACE (Automatic Computing Engine) design, one of the first computers built in the UK. The DEUCE, was manufactured between 1955 and 1964. The Pilot ACE had been based on a proposal by the British computer scientist and mathematician Alan Turing (1912-1954). Photographed in 1956, in the Mathematics Division of the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, UK.
