Computerised clothing. Fashion models wear comput- erised "smart clothes". These Musicware (left) and Manipulatore outfits are musical instruments that play in response to their wearer's dancing. Electric field sensors detect the movement of the dancers' arms. These are linked to amplifiers and synthesiser speakers sewn into the man's jacket & woman's backpack. The batteries that power the dancers' clothes are in the soles of their shoes. Such "smart clothes" can continuously respond to a user's actions and environment & may soon be used widely. The outfit was a collaboration between researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, & international fashion designers.
