Portable computer tourist guide. Deep Map, a prototype portable computer tourist guide, on a man's wrist. Here the phrase "one ticket please" has been translated into German. This system allows a personalised tour to be created and accessed through the touch screen. Deep Map tracks its position with a global positioning system (GPS), so information on sites of interest is given at the right time. A link to the internet provides travel and weather reports, as well as enabling bookings, of hotels for example, to be made. The system is able to recognize and produce speech. Deep Map is being developed by the European Media Lab (EML) in Heidelberg, Germany.
