Caption: Office on the arm. Prototype office on the arm, the successor to the laptop computer. The office contains a computer, mobile telephone, dictaphone and calculator, allowing access to the internet and other computing facilities. A touchpad is used to enlarge or scroll the screen display; a virtual -reality visor can be used for viewing. Data is entered into the computer using voice recognition software. The Apple Macintosh computer operates at 66MHz using 32 Mb RAM and a 500 Mb hard drive. The office is powered by mains electricity, batteries or by a vest which turns the user's body heat into electricity. The office on the arm was invented by Roger Payne at British Telecom.
