Caption: Information superhighway. Computer artwork repre- senting the information superhighway, showing computers with streams of zeroes and ones (binary digits) passing through them. An international system of computer connections, the internet, has been established to allow the free exchange of information and ideas. Computers on the internet communicate with each other through telephone lines. The binary digits represent computer commands made of "0"s and "1"s. Computers communicate with each other in this way because an electric pulse can be used to represent a "1", whilst the absence of a pulse registers a "0".
