Caption: Internet. Computer artwork representing the global communication made possible by the internet and electronic mail (e-mail). The image shows nine silver columns on a coloured grid, on top of which are differently coloured globes above which is a satellite which links up all the globes. Between the satellite and globes are rows of zeros and ones (binary digits). Computers use binary digits to communicate with each other because an electric pulse can be used to represent a "1", whilst no pulse registers a "0". The Internet allows computers all over the world to send and receive images and text.
