Caption: Internet spam. Conceptual artwork of SPAM luncheon meat covered with e-mail 'spam'. The name SPAM was originally a contraction of the words 'spiced' and 'ham', and has been the trademark name of luncheon meat produced by a company called Hormel in the USA since 1937. More recently, the word 'spam' has been used to describe unsolicited commercial e-mail (UCE). The origin of this usage is believed to be a Monty Python comedy sketch, although spam may also be an acronym for 'Sending and Posting Advertising in Mass'.
