Caption: A model of an alien battle craft being digitised for a virtual reality game. In order to create a computerised version of the craft, a series of reference points must be loaded into the system. The operator draws an array of triangles on the model, larger ones on flat surfaces and smaller ones on curved areas. The probe is then used to point to each corner of the triangles. The probe is attached to a converted industrial drilling rig. As the probe is moved a set of stepping motors records its position, and thus digitises the 3-D coordinates of each point. The computer is then able to construct an image of the model.
