Caption: Virtual tourism: Basilica of St. Francis. Virtual reality screen display of a view inside the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, Italy. The wide nave of the church is seen with its 14th century gothic architecture. By wearing a headset to provide a stereoscopic three-dimensional (3-D) view, the virtual visitor can maneuver their way and explore the colourful church from any angle. Lower walls of the nave are seen decorated by the frescoes of Giotto. The user may "enter into" each of the frescoes to explore a virtual city, in 3-D, of the buildings that Giotto drew in his frescoes. This virtual reality programme was developed by the Italian electricity company ENEL.
