Caption: A pilot at the controls of a helicopter. In his right hand, the pilot holds the cyclic control. This alters the angle between the rotor blades and the air selectively to effect changes in roll or pitch. In his left hand is the collective control which alters the angles of all of the blades together, changing the total thrust of the rotor to alter lift or speed. The throttles on a helicopter are usually left alone once set before take-off, unlike in aeroplanes. Control in yaw is effected by rudder pedals at the pilot's feet. The instrument panel is almost identical to that found in aeroplanes.
