Caption: Airplane engine control lever. Pilot's hand using the thrust lever to control the engine output of a Boeing 777 airplane. Engine output readings are on the screen behind the hand. The thrust lever sends the new engine output commands to a computer that controls the actual throttle of the airplane. This is a safety measure to prevent incorrect operation of the throttle endangering the airplane. The flap control lever (right) and the speed brake control lever (left) operate devices on the airplane wings to help control air speed. The thrust lever is also used to reverse the thrust of the engines during landing.
