Caption: Comparison of computer simulation (left) and wind tunnel measurements (right) of the airflow over the space shuttle during ascent. The colours represent different surface pressures from white (highest) to dark blue (lowest). The airflow model has been set up by NASA engineers at the Ames Research Center using a Cray-2 supercomputer. They are using the numerical simulations to analyse flight performance and crew escape procedures.
