Caption: Vertical wind tunnel test. Man hovering in mid-air with a model of a Mirage 2000 jet fighter during spin tests in the SV4 vertical wind tunnel. They are in free-fall, being supported only by the force of the wind coming up from beneath. This wind tunnel can generate winds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and allows precise measurement of the air flow over the aircraft as it spins. It can also be used for training free-fall parachu- tists. Photographed at a wind tunnel operated by the National Office for the Study and Research of Aerospace (ONERA) at the Institute of Mechanics and Fluids in Lille, France.
