Caption: Aeroplane engine. Front view of a Rolls Royce RB211 engine, which is used to power jumbo jet aircraft such as the Boeing 747. This is a turbofan engine in which fan blades (arranged in a circle) draw air into the engine to provide thrust for the aircraft. The fan is powered by turbine blades (not seen), turned by hot air expelled from the rear of the engine. The Rolls Royce RB211 engine was developed during the 1960s.
