Controlling driving simulator. Researcher controlling the conditions in a driving simulator (through window). This simulator contains a full- sized car with a motion system that simulates realistic movements in a variety of test situations. Such simulators can be used to test driver responses under potentially dangerous conditions, in a safe environment. This simulator, at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), UK, has been used to test drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and cannabis. It has also been used to analyse the distraction of drivers by display panels inside a vehicle.
