Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Ocean technology. Image 3 of 4. Scuba diver holding a section of pipe through which fresh water is flowing from a spring on the bottom of the sea. The bottom of the pipe is attached to a base (not seen) fitted around the source. This image was taken during construction of the pipe to direct the flow of fresh water to the surface where it will be made available to passing boats. The fresh water source is at a depth of 36 metres below the surface, and is about 800 metres offshore on the Franco-Italian border in the Mediterranean Sea. The spring is fed from the Alps. See images T700/112-115 for a sequence of the pipe's construction. Photographed in 2003.
