Caption: MIR deep-sea submersible being moved by crane over the sea. Once in the sea, the MIR submersible will be controlled by an onboard crew. Two MIR submersibles were built jointly by the Soviet Union and Finland in 1987. They are capable of diving to a depth of 6000 metres. Photographed in May 1989.
