Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Diving scooters on the surface. These are Bellaqua breathing observation bubbles (BOBs). They have a clear acrylic dome that covers the diver's head as the diver sits on a motorbike- style seat. The air inside the dome is supplied by a standard scuba tank. The scooters move at up to 5 kilometres an hour with an electrically-powered propeller. A buoyancy-control device is used to ascend and descend to depths of up to 12 metres. A dive computer monitors the dive, which lasts for about 40 minutes. Photographed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Tahiti in French Polynesia.
