Narwhal and other sea mammals are a valuable source of food and income for Inuit communities in Greenland and the Canadian High Arctic. Narwhal meat is usually dried before being eaten and is rich in protein and iron. Narwhal blubber and skin, known as muktuk, is also consumed, either raw or cooked, and is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids. Narwhal tusks are sold by Inuit and provide an important source of income.
