Caption: Cutting metal. A worker uses an oxyacetylene cutting torch to shape a metal sheet. Oxyacetylene is the commonest form of cutting technology in the fabrication of steel components from sheets. The heat produced by the combustion of acetylene in oxygen is sufficient to melt the steel, like the proverbial hot knife through butter. Careful control of the flame temperature and the size of gas nozzle used can produce remarkably accurate edges.
