Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Researcher at the controls of a high-energy gas atomiser, used to produce fine metal powders for use in specialist alloys. Metals are heated to high temperature (up to 1800 degrees centigrade), atomised and fired into the metal chamber at supersonic velocities. Here the metal vapour re-solidifies into tiny, spherical particles, each approximately 15 microns in diameter. This laboratory-scale apparatus produces batches of fine metal powders weighing 20 to 30 kilos.
