Caption: Perfect mirror. Yoel Fink, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA) researcher reflected in his invention, a dielectric mirror known as the perfect mirror. Metallic mirrors absorb a significant portion of the incident light that strikes them. The dielectric mirror shown here, however, will reflect light and other radiation with a much greater efficiency. It is composed of several layers of dielectric materials such as polymers. The mirror is omnidirectional, reflecting light from any angle, something normal dielectric mirrors cannot do. It is envisaged that this technology can be used in optical communications and thermally reflective coatings.
