Caption: Plastics recycling research. Researcher examining recyclable plastics intended for use in the motor vehicle industry. Laws often regulate how much of a product should be made of recyclable materials. The researcher is working with a Haake Rheocord 90 from Fisons. This is a torque rheometer, a system designed to measure the viscosity and elasticity of polymer (plastic) mixtures. This is a measure of how hard it is to mix and separate different plastics, a crucial consideration for recycling purposes. Photographed at Loughborough University, Leicestershire, UK. One result of plastics research at Loughborough University has been the PanelPlus truck panels made from waste plastics. The project started in 1997 and the panels were first fitted for use in trucks in March 2004.
