Caption: Recycling domestic waste. Workers sorting through domestic waste on a conveyor belt, selecting items for recycling. Several hundred tons of waste are processed in a single day. Items that can be recycled from domestic waste include paper, cardboard, glass, metal, plastic and textiles. The items will be placed in the bins behind the workers and taken away to be recycled. The remaining waste is then burnt in an incinerator to produce energy. This is the waste valorisation and treatment plant in Bessiere, Haute-Garonne, France, operated by the Econotre company. Construction of the plant began in 1985 and finished in 2003.
